Health of the low back / Pain in low back

A healthy low back must be strong, motile and painless.

You can have a healthy low back by only following certain rules.

 

  • Keep your back and low back straight

  • A bad posture will increase the kyphosis in the back and the lordosis in the low back

  • Change position frequently

  • Take care particularly for maintaining the normal curve of the low back

  • Divide the load you have been carrying to your both hands equally

  • Plan your movements in advance

  • Do not be hero, ask for help

  • Never lift heavy objects

  • Do not bend forwards when picking up something from the floor, bend your knees and kneel down

  • Lift the object with your legs, not with your low back

  • Keep the object as higher as possible from your low back and close to your body

  • When you have to turn, do it with all your body, not only with your waist

  • Do not push, pull or lift heavy objects

  • Sit straight in chairs

  • Support your lordosis with a cushion that fits it

  • Keep your back straight when sitting, and lean back

  • Prefer hard orthopedic mats to lie on

  • Lying on the floor or wood with nothing on is not the right thing to do

  • Do not stretch you legs when lying

  • A small pillow you put under your thighs when laying on your back will make you comfortable

  • Be careful about your weight and eat a balanced diet

  • Do not smoke

  • Reduce your daily tension and stress

  • Exercise daily and regularly

  • Walking, swimming and jogging are ideal exercises for you
